Porcelain Dental Veneers: More Than Just a Pretty Smile

Porcelain Dental Veneers: More Than Just a Pretty Smile

Porcelain Dental Veneers consist of thin, natural-coloured porcelain that is then permanently bonded to the tooth enamel to fix broken, chipped or discoloured teeth. Some people get just one veneer to restore a specific tooth, while others get a whole set, so they have an even smile. It is a comprehensive approach to dental treatment.

Treatment Process

Usually, a porcelain veneer treatment process takes about four appointments to complete. However, this does depend on the condition of your teeth and the number of veneers you plan to get. First, you’ll have an initial consultation appointment with your dentist to decide how many veneers you need to get and the plan of action. X-rays and photos are also taken during this appointment so your dentist can assess the overall condition of your teeth. During your second appointment, impressions are taken of your teeth, and different veneer shapes and sizes are tested. Once you’re happy with how your veneers will look, they are sent off to be created.

At your third appointment, your teeth will be prepared for the veneer. Usually, this includes your teeth being shaved down and cleaned. The veneers are bonded to your teeth during your fourth appointment using dental cement.

Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers provide more than just a pretty smile. The benefits include:

  • Appearance: Veneers can fix the appearance of broken, discoloured or chipped teeth.
  • Long-lasting: Porcelain veneers are high-quality and can usually last up to 10-15 years on average and sometimes even longer if they are taken care of (good dental hygiene and regular dental visits). They are the most durable of all the veneer options available.
  • Natural appearance: Porcelain veneers look natural and blend in perfectly with your natural teeth, so there’s no need to feel self-conscious about wearing them.
  • Protect your natural teeth: Veneers can protect your natural teeth from any discolouration or further chipping.
  • Low maintenance: Veneers don’t require any extra care besides keeping up your everyday oral hygiene habits like brushing your teeth, flossing, and regularly visiting your dentist.
  • Improve your smile: Your veneers will make you smile with renewed confidence.

If you feel self-conscious about your chipped or discoloured teeth, porcelain veneers are the perfect solution. Not only do they give you a beautiful new smile, but they also have many dental benefits, such as protecting your natural teeth.
